What modern invention has had as great of an effect on the spread of knowledge in our society as the printing press did on Renaissance society? Why?
Computers have millions of information these days in time. This invention really has an effect on the spread of knowledge. They teach you almost everything you know. The are used for: projects, meetings, information and anything you need to know. The first computer device was made in the year of 1642 from the research i have checked out (I don't know how true that is but I AM STICKING TO IT) printing press is a mechanical device for applying pressure to an inked surface resting upon a medium (such as paper or cloth), thereby transferring an image. The mechanical systems involved were first assembled in Germany by the goldsmith Johanne Gutenberg around 1440, based on existing screw-presses used to press cloth, grapes, etc. and possibly prints. Gutenberg was the first in Western Europe to develop a printing press.
